Local Red Cross to
Participate In
Emergency Services
Day

May 20, 2006 – The local
American Red Cross, Iowa Rivers Chapter, will be participating
in this year’s Hy-Vee Emergency Services Day in Grinnell. This
event will take place Saturday from 10am-2pm in the Hy-Vee
parking lot.
During this event, the Grinnell
Fire Department will do a live structure burn to show the
dangers of a fire, as well as the importance of having working
smoke detectors and an escape route. An Air Care 2 Helicopter
will also fly in and be on display. Free hot dogs and pop will
be provided throughout the day by Hy-Vee.
Among the many agencies that
will be participating, the local Red Cross will have an
information tent with free disaster preparedness material.
Local volunteers will be there to share their disaster
experiences, both locally and nationally, as well as information
on how to become a disaster volunteer.
“Just this past week, three
local fires have destroyed the homes of unsuspecting families,”
said Dean Sweberg, Emergency Services Director, “I can’t stress
enough how important it is to be educated and prepared.”
More information about disaster
preparedness can be found on the American Red Cross website at
www.iowarivers.redcross.org.
